Kokrajhar school declared containment zone after detection of 2 COVID-19 positive cases

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar's DN Himmat Singha High School has been sealed for an indefinite period after the detection of two COVID-19 positive cases within the premises of the institution.

The district magistrate, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), through an order, declared the entire school campus as "containment zone" until further order, to arrest the spread of the disease.

Movement of unauthorised individual and vehicle within the notified area have been strictly prohibited.

Meanwhile, Assam’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 2,31,069 over the past 24 hours as the state reported this year’s highest single day spike of 1931 fresh cases, while 10 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,160.

Kamrup (Metro) reported three deaths, Karbi Anglong two, while Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts recorded one death each.

Kamrup (M) recorded the highest number of 680 new cases, followed by Dibrugarh 143, Kamrup 136 and Nagaon 103.

Assam currently has 10,571 active COVID-19 cases, while 2,17,991 patients have recovered from the disease, including 398 yesterday.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 94.34 per cent. The state has so far tested 80,98,956 samples for COVID-19 and positivity rate is 2.63 per cent.

A total of 14,54,377 people have so far received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine across the state and 3,68,502 persons have got the second dose of the vaccine.

As many as 18,22,879 people, including 4,92,748 frontline workers, 3,10,855 healthcare workers and 10,19,276 people above 45 years have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the state so far.

Among those inoculated, 1,72,213 frontline workers, 1,20,222 healthcare workers and 76,067 persons above 45 years have received the second shot of the vaccine so far.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has however ruled out the possibility of imposing a lockdown in view of the rapid surge of COVID-19 in the state.
