Assam's Kokrajhar on Sunday saw a massive turnout of Koch-Rajbongshis who once again reiterated their demand for a separate state, Kamtapur, and granting of ST status.
The rally, that was spearheaded by the All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) in the Dimalgaon area in Kokrajhar, saw the massive participation from members of the community who were led by local leaders in raising a rallying cry.

Jibesh Ray GS AKRSU, addressing the media on the sidelines of the protest, said, "The Koch-Rajbongshi community has some long-pending demands due to which we are staging a protest here(.....)Narendra Modi had said at a rally that if he was voted to power, the problems of the Koch-Rajbongshis would be resolved. The Congress leaders made promises that they did not keep, and the BJP party is also doing the same.."

The Koch-Rajbongshi leaders claimed that the BJP Government, just like the Congress before it, has turned a blind eye to the community's demand after coming to power despite promising to do so ahead of the polls.

It is to be mentioned here that the Koch-Rajbongshis, along with five other prominent communities (Tai-Ahom, Moran, Motok, Chutia, & tea tribes being the others), have long been demanding the Government to grant them ST status so that they can avail Government facilities and schemes that are 'reserved' for those earmarked as ST.
