Guwahati (Assam), September 19, 2018:

The Karbi Studdents Association (KSA) has opposed the Central and State Government’s move to scrap the supply of subsidised kerosene under the Public Distribution System (PDS) scheme.

Samson Teron, president, KSA said, “The KSA strongly opposes the government’s policy to ban supply of kerosene in the state on the basis of Assam state being included in a certain pilot project. But to the utter dismay, the Karbi Anglong District instead of being electrified, more than 30% of the total area depends on kerosene earthen lamps and other domestic purposes.”

He added that the total ban on supply of Kerosene will hamper the life of the common people in the state basically and basically students in those backward areas.

He further added, “Therefore, we appeal the government to roll back the decision and continue the supply of Kerosene under PDS scheme. If the government fails to do so, the KSA will be bound to initiate a strong democratic movement against the move.
