TINSUKIA: A tense atmosphere prevails in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Upper Assam's Tinsukia as protesters of Mishing organizations are starting to get rowdy in their demand for the rehabilitation of villagers of the flood-prone Laika-Dodhia villagers.

Mising organizations such as TMPK, MMK, and TMMK staged a sit-in protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Upper Assam's Tinsukia. At one point, the protesters broke through the barricade and clashed with the authorities deployed in the area to keep the peace. Thankfully, however, nobody was injured.

"We condemn Assam Minister Parimal Suklabaidya as he does not know where Dibru-Saikhowa is. He is simply a puppet. Despite being indigenous sons of the soil, we are surviving like children. We are ashamed," a Laika-Dodhia protester told Inside Northeast.

"Barricades were set up by the district administration ahead of the protest to maintain law and order; however, some of the protesters broke through the barricade, triggering alarm," a source informed Inside Northeast.

Things, however, are back to normal now, with the police personnel finally being able to bring the agitators under control.

It may be mentioned that several hundreds of protesters belonging to the Laika-Dodhia villages are camping at Lezaihola Borguri in Tinsukia town for the past one month now, braving cold weather and absence of basic healthcare and drinking water facilities.

Worse still, three protesters including a pregnant woman, have died after falling ill at the protest camp over the past four weeks. The chill of winter has compounded the woes of the protesters, and many people have fallen ill during the long protest at the campsite.
