The historic Latasil Bihu pandal in Assam was completely destroyed during the storm that recently impacted several regions of Assam, but despite the destruction, the organizers managed to hold their ground and see through the traditional Bihu festivities that they have been holding for decades (it was first held in 1952).
The Latasil Bihu is one of the pioneers in the state and is believed to be one of the oldest Bihu functions held on stage in Assam. The Latasil Bihu committee organizes various competitions during ‘Rongali Bihu’ time and gives away the honors such as Bihu Samragi, Bihu Rani, Bihu Kuwori, etc.
The prestigious title of ‘Bihu Samragi’ 2019, the highest honor given to a Bihu dancer by the Latasil Bihu Committee, has been bagged by Nilam Dulakakharia from Lakhimpur.
In this year’s event, Niharika Saikia from Dibrugarh bagged the title of ‘Bihu Rani 2019’, while Nibedita Bora from Dibrugarh won the title of ‘Bihu Kunwori’.
