Guwahati, 16 January 2019:
The last rites of former Assam minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Biraj Sharma, who breathed his last at Nemcare hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday, will be performed today.
His family members informed that the he was suffering from liver disease and had been hospitalised for 10 days before breathing his last.
Prior to his cremation, the mortal remains of the leader will be taken to a number of places for people to pay their last homage. His last journey will begin from Chandmari Bihutoli and will move through Silpukhuri namghar, Silpukhuri Bihutoli, Latshil field, Swahid Bhawan and Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir.
Biraj Sharma’s mortal remains will also be taken to the AGP headquarters in Ambari where party leaders and other political figures of the state will pay their tributes before moving to Navagraha crematorium.
Biraj Sharma was also the vice-president of AGP for a long time and one of the signatory of the Assam Accord along with Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and Bhrigu Kumar Phukan way back in 1985.
