In a historic move toward “crime against women”, the Tinsukia Session Court on Thursday pronounced life imprisonment to the convict of Assam’s twin rape and murder case.
Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia gave out the judgment in the Simaluguri-Mariani rape and murder case against Bikash Das alias Bejmohan Das. On the other hand, the other accused Bipin Pande has been exonerated from the case.
It is to be mentioned that in July 2018, the body of a girl student of Assam Agricultural University was found in a passenger train at Simaluguri in Sivasagar district. She was semi-clad and her throat was found slit.
With less than 24 hours, another body of the semi-clad woman was recovered from the toilet of Avadh Assam Express at Mariani junction in Jorhat district. The body was found with a Gamucha tied around her neck.
The police submitted the charge sheet in relation to the Assam’s twin rape and murder on October 11, 2018. The duo was under custody from that period.
