Guwahati, December 19, 2018:

Alleging corruption, the locals of two villages of Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district prevented the workers from constructing a road.

After years of wait, the villagers of Chodhou Puniya and Tengapathar got a road under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana. The government had allocated Rs.168.36 lakh for the construction of the 2.68 km long road.

However, as the road was being built, the locals forced the workers to stop the work. They alleged that the road was being built with sub-standard materials and accused the contractor of minting money.

In this regard, the villagers later lodged a complaint with the authorities in Lakhimpur. The authorities too found lapses in the construction and directed the road’s reconstruction.
