GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi will contest the Assam assembly elections from Duliajan, while general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan will contest from Sadia.
The All Assam Students Union-backed regional party announced a list of 18 candidates for the first phase of polls to be held in Upper Assam on March 27.
The party, raised on the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 plank, is contesting the elections in alliance with Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti-backed Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi.

Altogether 47 constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on March 27.
The two parties have turned down repeated invites from the Congress-led grand alliance to join the alliance stating that they would not join hands with any national party or communal party.
Asked if the third front alliance would entertain any alliance offer from former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta-led Asom Gana Parishad (Pragatishil) that has announced that it would contest from 15 constituencies, Bhuyan said they have not been communicated by Mahanta.

About the open letter by Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi expressing apprehensions that the opposition parties were actually helping the BJP-led alliance to retain power at Dispur, Bhuyan said: “It may be their party’s or his individual view. So, I should not comment on it. But, we don’t feel so. We don’t feel so weak.”
He also dismissed reported rift within the two parties over Akhil Gogoi’s views.
