“Lurinjyoti Gogoi Should Not Use Derogatory Terms for Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal”: BJP Spokesman Rupam Goswami

Guwahati, January 7, 2020:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Rupam Goswami has cautioned All Assam Students’ Union’s (AASU) General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi to refrain from using derogatory terms for Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and mislead the people of Assam on the amended Citizenship Act.

While addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Goswami said, “Let them continue with the Andolan against CAA but insults should not be hurled at the Chief Minister of Assam. Lurinjyoti Gogoi has received immense love from the people of Assam, be it elderly or the youth.”

“What kind of a son has the mother given birth to? Isn’t this question disturbing? Is it suitable to use in the Assamese society? Won’t it impact the youth of Assam? The grandmothers have showered so much love to Lurinjyoti Gogoi. He should have some responsibility towards the society and refrain from saying anything and everything,” suggested Goswami.

It may be mentioned here that AASU has carried out a statewide agitation against the implementation of CAA in Assam. In the peaceful and cultural protests joined by the masses of the state, AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi has been vocal about his stand on the state and centre’s move to implement the legislation, which is considered as a threat to indigenous rights. While addressing the gathering, Gogoi has been calling the Assam CM the puppet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to voice out his concerns over the contentious CAA.
