Mahanta reiterates AGP will go it alone in panchayat polls

Guwahati, November 12. 2018:

Two-time former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said his party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) would have no ties or cordial relationship with any political party in the upcoming panchayat elections.

He was confident that the AGP would do well singlehandedly in the polls. His party colleague and Assam minister, Keshab Mahanta, said the AGP would never support the “anti-Assamese” Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

If the BJP-led government at the Centre tries to pass the bill in the Parliament, then the AGP will withdraw its support to the government, he said.
