Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will launch a hi-tech modern RO RO (Roll-on/Roll-Off) ferry service today between Kamalabari Ghat and Nimati Ghat in the Brahmaputra river.
The two-day BJP state executive meet had started from Wednesday at Majuli. And on the second day of the meet, CM Sonowal will inaugurate the service at Kamalabari Ghat on Thursday afternoon.
The new vessel has been named after legendary singer Asom Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The ferry built of steel, is 46.50 metres and breadth 13.30 metres at a cost of Rs 10 crore by the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
The vessel M.V Bhupen Hazarika will be able to carry over 100 passengers along with eight trucks with each weighing 25 tonnes or 25 small vehicles.
The new vessel M.V Bhupen Hazarika is equipped with one main engine and two additional engines.
