Kokrajhar, July 2, 2019:

A man died due after he was struck by lightning at Balajan in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Samir Nath (aged 31), and is the son of Nagen Nath.

According to reports, Samir had gone to a friend's house along with his 3-4 of his friends. It was raining heavily that night when he was at his friend house. It has been reported that the man was struck by lightning when he went out to the veranda and he died instantly.

He was taken to the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospitals, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

One of his locals said that the incident occurred at around 10 pm. "He was waiting for the rain to halt, and when it eventually did, he had simply stepped foot outside the house, when he was struck by lightning", he added.

It may be mentioned that due to incessant rains, surging rivers have submerged roads, damaged embankments and washed away bridges and culverts in the lower Assam districts of Chirang, Baksa, Kokrajhar and South Salmara.
