Panic has set in among locals in Golaghat district, which shares a border with Nagaland, after water, released by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) from the Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP) reservoir in Nagaland on Friday night, inundated several bordering villages in Assam.
The NEEPCO said the radial gates of the hydel project had to be opened due to the increase in water level in the reservoir. It said the rise in water level was due to heavy rainfall.
