Guwahati, November 1, 2018:
An Assam youth has threatened to join the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I).
Twenty two-year-old Delton Deuri of Lakhimpur district has expressed his willingness to join the outlawed outfit in a post on the social media. Delton, who is the younger brother of martyr Narottam Deuri blamed the government for his decision to take up arms.
Narottam Deuri was among the martyrs who died in the Indian Navy’s kilo-class submarine INS Sindhurakshak which had sunk at the naval dockyard in Mumbai on August 14, 2013 after a explosion. The UPA government had promised a job to a family member of Narottam Deuri soon after the mishap.
“We have been running from pillar to post to get the job the government had promised after my brother’s death. The government never kept its promise and our pleas fell on deaf ears. I have no option left other than taking up arms,” Delton wrote in his post.
“How long will I keep running for the job? It would be better to join the Ulfa (I) than running like this,” wrote a aggrieved Delton.
It may be mentioned that the Vice President of the All Assam Students’ Union, Dergaon Unit Partha Pratim Dutta has joined the Ulfa (I) recently.
