Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma paid tribute to his late father Purno Agitok Sangma (1 September 1947 – 4 March 2016) on his 72nd birth anniversary. Today is also the 7th Foundation Day of the Meghalaya-based National People's Party (NPP), which was founded by PA Sangma.
In the tribute to his father, a former Chief Minister of the state, Conrad wrote that Purno Agitok Sangma represented the voice of North East nationally. "Today, his vision has furthered the collective interest of all the people of our region and we feel proud to have achieved his dream by becoming the first national party in the Northeast", Sangma wrote in his tribute.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma wrote, "Baba Thank you for guiding me & being with us always! Though you are not there physically with us, we still feel your presence & seek your guidance. Your vision for our people is our guiding principle & we will continue to live & work for our people."
Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also paid tribute to the late Sangma on his birth anniversary. "Former Lok Sabha Speaker late PA Sangma congratulated me on my first day in the Parliament. On his birth anniversary I pay my tribute to the great visionary leader who was a source of inspiration for me in my public service", he tweeted.
