Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has arrived in Guwahati to hold talks with the NPP allies in the state of Assam. As per reports, Sangma had a highly confidential meeting with Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which is all the more significant in light of Conrad’s recent decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya alone.
Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was denied a Lok Sabha ticket by the party to focus on the NEDA ahead of the elections, is trying to strengthen the anti-Congress forum in the Northeast by wooing key players like Sangma as the parties in the alliance look to secure the fortress of the Northeast against Congress attacks to retake it.
As per latest reports, AGP leaders Atul Bora and Keshav Mahanta, who recently realigned with the BJP to fight the election together, also joined the meeting. It is rumored that the meeting is a key one for the NEDA parties to reach an understanding before the elections. Further details are awaited.
