Guwahati, August 24, 2019:

The All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU) on Saturday addressed several issues pertaining to the National Register of Citizens (NRC), due for an August 31 publication.

AAMSU leader Azizur Rahman cautioned the NRC officials not to exclude any genuine citizens from the NRC. Moreover, he said that no persons who entered the country after the deadline date should be included in the NRC. He also claimed that the minority communities of Assam have been affected worst by the NRC.

The student organization also made an appeal to Prateek Hajela to ensure that there are no discrepancies in the NRC process.

"There should be no controversies after the publication of the final draft NRC", he said.

Rahman also said that "some organizations are trying to delay the NRC by dividing among communal lines, whereas others have alleged that Bangladeshis have been included in the NRC. This is a conspiracy to derail the NRC process."

"Hindu or Muslim, no foreigner should be included in the NRC", he said, adding that if anybody with legal documents is deprived from the NRC, the AAMSU will take to the streets in protest. "In such a case, Prateek Hajela will be the one who will be the one to blame."

It may be added here that the AAMSU press meet comes less than a day after a bombshell news survey which stated that 89% of those who have been excluded from the first draft of the NRC are suffering from "extreme anxiety".
