Guwahati, August 1, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti Chief Akhil Gogoi on Thursday alleged the the Narendra Modi led-BJP government has hatched a conspiracy against the people of Assam by passing the restart button on the construction of the controversial Subansiri Dam by NHPC.

Fresh Environment Clearance has been provided by the Central Forest and Environment Ministry after a report was submitted by an Expert Appraisal Committee composed of three members by NHPC.

As per the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), an expert committee was formed by the NHPC, however alleging it to be illegal; a petition was filed in the Supreme Court and NGT by Aabhijeet Sharma and Tularam Gogoi to dissolve the committee.

However, the petition was rejected.

Once again in March 2019, a petition was filed demanding the same and against the validity of the committee. But at the time when the proceedings of the case were going on, the Central Government passed the order of continuation of work of the dam.

Akhil Gogoi of the KMSS questioned how the government has passed the order to continue the work despite court hearing was in process?

He further alleged that the NHPC has been carrying out these works without keeping in mind the adverse affects of the Subansiri dam in the state.
