Money and liquor seized from Assam AGP leader’s car

Guwahati, April 8, 2019:

In a shocking development, a sizable amount of cash, as well as five boxes, has been seized from a car affiliated to AGP's Keshav Mahanta.

Police seized Rs. 1.5 lakh cash and five boxes full of liquor bottles at Salana tea garden near Karbi Anglong hills from the car of Kanu Mahanta, who is the brother of AGP leaders Keshav Mahanta and Moni Madhab Mahanta, who will contest the ensuing election from Kaliabor Constituency.

It is alleged that the money and liquor were taken to be distributed to neighboring tea gardens ahead of the elections to woo voters.

The Congress party, meanwhile, has lodged complaints against the Election Commission observer in Kaliabor and alleged that the AGP-BJP-BPF alliance has used lakhs of rupees in Kaliabor Constituency in a bid to influence the elections.

Kaliabor will head to the polls on April 11 during the first phase of the election.
