Assam today bade adieu to martyr Sunil Kalita who was injured in the Naxal attack in Jharkhand on May 28.
He was cremated with full state honour in Dimu, Palara.
Tears rolled down to Sunil’s wife Padumi’s cheek who saluted him for the last time and broke into tears.
The family was left heartbroken with the loss of their young son. Sunil got married on April 10 this year. He was about to visit his home shortly. But the unfortunate fate decided a different story.
Sunil Kalita of 209 CoBRA battalion lost his life at Delhi AIIMS on Thursday night at 7:40 pm. He sustained serious injuries in the IED blast in Saraikela district, Jharkhand on May 28 and was undergoing treatment at Trauma Centre AllMS, New Delhi since June 4.
It is to be mentioned that he was in an operation against Naxals on May 28 at Raisindri Pahar of Kuchai area in Saraikela District of Jharkhand state. At about 4.30am, he was injured in IED blast by Naxals. A total of 15 soldiers were seriously injured in the incident.
With him, all injured soldiers were immediately admitted in a super specialty hospital in Ranchi of Jharkhand by airlifting.
Later he was transferred through air ambulance to Delhi AIIMS for better treatment. Along with him, two other soldiers from Assam were injured.
Reportedly, Sunil’s right leg was amputated at Mahabir Bhagawan Medical Super Specialty Hospital in Ranchi and left hand amputated in Delhi AIIMS. While his colleagues Mijanur Rahman and Nitul Barman alleged that due to lack of proper treatment and negligence in the Ranchi Hospital Sunil lost his life.
Sunil Kalita had joined in Guwahati and his training was done at Allahabad and Sri Nagar in the year 2012-15. In 2015, he was posted at Khulti District, in Jharkhand under the in CoBRA battalion which is about 20 km far from Ranchi.
