Sonitpur, May 14, 2019:

A Muslim man from Assam's Sonitpur district has earned plaudits for a humane act during the holy month of Ramzan. The man, Munna Ansari, had been observing a roja (fast) as part of Islamic customs and beliefs, but the man broke his fast after a call from a hospital in Biswanath (site of a recent communal incident).

The Muslim man rushed to Biswanath Civil hospital to donate blood to an 85-year old Hindu woman who was admitted to the hospital. The octogenarian had been admitted to the hospital one week prior to the incident as she had been suffering from a gall-bladder ailment and was in urgent need of B-negative blood.

The family of Rebati had been worried as the hospital did not have a stock of the required blood type. Their search for B-negative blood met with futility for over three days. On the third day, Rebati's son finally left a message on the ‘Team Humanity Voluntary Blood donors Group’ on Facebook, meant for bridging blood seekers and donors on the social networking site. Ansari was the one who responded and said his blood group is B-negative.

Rebati's son Anil's says that even though the family is not related to the benevolent Muslim man Ansari, they now consider him family as his blood now runs in his mother's body.

Anil was seen breaking down into tears while interacting with the media persons and said that Munna’s sacrifice proves that people can be related despite differences over blood or religion.

Ansari's has been performing the noble deed for a long time now has been an active blood donor for the ‘Team Humanity Voluntary Blood donors group’  for many years now. He has also revealed that he wants to be a blood donor for the rest of his life.

At a time when Hindus and Muslims are killing each other over religious practices and food habits, it is indeed heartening to witness examples such as Ansari for whom humanity is the biggest religion.
