Popular singer Zublee Baruah says her dream is to make Assam the land of immortals.

Speaking with InsideNe on the sidelines of “Organothon”, an initiative of Zublee Foundation which aims to create awareness on organ donation, the singer said she felt it was her responsibility to give something back to the society.

“I always wanted to do something for the society. I pledged to donate my organ, maybe eight to nine years back, and during that time, there was no organisation working for this cause in Northeast. Five years down the line, we started the Zublee Foundation. We are working to create awareness among people throughout the region on organ donations. We had a dream of making our land a land of the immortals. My motherland should be the land of the immortals because if one person donates his/her organ, it can save up to nine lives. So, we will be immortal even after death because our organ will keep living. After my death, if my heart beats in somebody else’s body, there is nothing beautiful than that. We have been very lucky that the people of Assam are supporting us,” Zublee said.

She said over 400 people had so far pledged to donate their organs after death. She said the Foundation had tied up with some very good hospitals where organ donations could take place. In this regard, she said she was getting all-out support from the state government.

The highlight of Organothon was a 10-km marathon where over 1000 people participated. The run started from the Geetanagar field and went through city thoroughfares.

Singers JP Das and Joy Barua, actor Rabi Sarma, bodybuilder Mahadev Deka besides senior officials of Ayursundra Superspecialty Hospitals attended the event.
