Guwahati (Assam), 1 Aug 2018:

Manipuri Youth Front Assam (MYFA) has opposed the recommendation reportedly made by Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs to extend provisions of Article 371 (A) to Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.

In a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Cachar Deputy Commissioner, MYFA stated that it had learnt that the committee submitted its report to Parliament on 19th June this year.

It warned that implementing the recommendation by the Centre would be opposed by the people of the three States and recalled how 18 persons lost their lives on 18th June 2001 to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Article 371 (A) is currently applicable only to the State of Nagaland.

The youth body further demanded that if Nagas inhabiting different areas of the Northeast are brought under one administrative unit, then Manipuris living in other North-eastern States too should be brought under a single unit.
