Kokrajhar, April 14, 2019:

The various political parties are busy campaigning in the no. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency which will see tooth-and-nail fights between several prominent candidates in the fray. The Bodo People’s Front (BPF) candidate Pramila Rani Brahma will duke it out with the likes of UPPL’s Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Congress’ Sabda Ram Rabha and independent candidate and sitting MP Naba Sarania. The BPF party held a campaign rally at Fakiragram that was attended by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, among others.

Rajya Sabha MP Daimary, while speaking to the media, said: “Picture is not clear regarding the competition. UPPL’s U G Brahma is a strong contender, so is Naba Sarania and Congress’ Sabda Rabha. But we are number one right now and will register a huge margin of victory..”

Daimary also accused Naba Sarania of being “communal”: “Naba Sarania played on people’s sentiments and ignited communal feelings in people and that is how he came to power. He is a terrorist belonging to the ULFA. He has done nothing for the betterment of anyone. He never participated in any discussions at the Centre. He has been exposed, and no one will vote for him this time.”

Daimary also opined that the minority-representative AIUDF party’s alliance with the UPPL will not affect the BPF’s prospects in this election. “The BPF party has a ‘minority cell’ and they are highly influential”, he added.

Kokrajhar Constituency will head to the polls during the third phase of polling on 23 May.
