In a shocking display of hypocrisy ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, ‘naked protestors’ of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill have joined the BJP on Saturday in Guwahati during a ceremony. These two individuals are Jadhav Das belonging to the 'Anuxutito Jati Students' Union' and Hiranya Pathari affiliated with Akhil Gogoi's Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).
The move of these two individuals would come as a shock to many as the Bill was birthed in the womb of the saffron party and the leaders of the party have announced that the Bill will again be reintroduced if the BJP is re-installed at the centre at the end of what is shaping into a high-voltage Lok Sabha election with the top .
Naked protests had become a norm during the ruckus against the Bill and representatives of the KMSS and 70 other organizations even took to the streets of Delhi to stage a naked protest on 8 January as the Bill was being tabled at the Lok Sabha.
Many youth and student organizations continued naked protests in Dispur before the Assam Secretariat in the ensuing days as the controversy continued. The Bill finally died a 'natural death' at the Rajya Sabha as the Government did not risk further outrage by tabling it.
It may be mentioned that many as six former Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) leaders, the student wing of the KMSS, and two Anchalik Committee members, joined the BJP.
