The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has called a 12-hour Assam Bandh tomorrow after the sentencing of life-imprisonment to its Chief Ranjan Daimary and nine other cadres involved in the 30 October 2008 serial bomb-blast in Assam.
According to reports, shops and other business institutions have already been shut down due to the tensed situation in the rebel group stronghold of Udalguri. Following this, the Assam police have tightened the security in the Bodo-dominated areas in the state.
It may be mentioned that the recent sentence of the CBI special court on the above-mentioned case has upset the rebel group and its supporters.
Meanwhile, Ranjan Daimary’s sister, Anjali Daimary has raised questions over the harsh verdict given to the NDFB members and why other armed groups like the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) do not receive do not receive similar punishments.NDFB calls 12-hour Assam Bandh after Ranjan Daimary’s sentence.
