Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Biswajit Daimary on June 2nd, 2020, while expressing his confidence over winning the Bodoland Territorial Council’s General Election, said that the BPF will get an absolute majority.
“There is no doubt about it that the BPF will get absolute majority and form the government,” the MP told the reporters.
Moreover, saying that alliance with the BJP will continue, Daimary said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party and BPF have mutually decided to contest the election solely. But, that does not mean that the alliance is on the brink of collapse.”
He further added that BPF was formed only for the interest of the people of BTAD. “We do not have any political agenda leaving the BTC apart.”
It is pertinent to mention, on March 14th, 2020, Assam irrigation minister (independent charge) Bhabesh Kalita said that the saffron party would fight alone in all the 40 seats in the BTC general election. “BJP is confident of winning 21 out of 40 seats,” he added.

Talking about the seat-sharing, the BPF leader said, “BPF cannot go for seat-sharing in the BTC election. The party is to serve the people of BTAD and protect their interests.”
However, the former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary on February 10th, 2020, said the BPF was ready to share seats with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) in the council’s general elections if the latter join hands.
“We are ready to share seats with ABSU in the general elections of the council if they join BPF,” he said while expressing his confidence over pocketing the BTC.
The elections for the BTC were slated to be held on April 4th, 2020 while the counting on April 8th, 2020. The last date of filing the nominations was March 18th, 2020 and the last date of withdrawing the nominations was March 21st, 2020.
But, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 leading to enforcement of the nationwide lockdown, the elections were deferred. No new date has been declared by the Commission yet.
