It may be mentioned that politics in the Bodoland ahead of the general elections for the 40 seats of the BTC has heated up. All the political parties have pulled up their socks to give a tough fight in the election. While BPF is eying to form the government for the fourth consecutive term, the BJP, who is contesting the election solely, has left no stone unturned to mark its presence.
The election, which was slated to be held on April 4th, 2020, was deferred due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, which has infected more than 3000 people and claimed seven people in the state so far.
After the term of the previous council ended on April 27th, 2020, the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi took charge of the BTC. This was vehemently opposed by the BPF arguing to extend the term. However, Pramod Boro led UPPL and other political parties had extended support to the move.
