Next BTC CEM will be from the BJP party, claims Himanta Biswa Sarma

Mazbat: With the elections in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) around the bend, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today claimed that a candidate from the BJP party will be appointed as the CEM of the Council.
The BTC election is likely going to be held in the first week of December and the new council would be formed within December 15 next.

Taking digs at Bodoland People's Front (BPF) President and former BTC CEM Hagrama Mohilary at an election rally in Udalguri's Mazbat town, Sarma claimed that the BPF party only feigns to care about the welfare of the people during the electioneering period. "However, once the election is over, people complain that the promises have not been kept."

Sarma also took credit for the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in January of this year. "he sole credit for this goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Because of this Accord, Assam will remain in one piece." The Minister further stated that there will be no more unrest in the BTR region if the BTC is voted to power in the forthcoming polls.

Sarma also reminded the poll-bound BTC residents about the 'Orunodoi' scheme and claimed that a large number of underprivileged people in the region will be benefitted under it.

Meanwhile, electioneering is underway in the poll-bound BTR region, as all parties are stepping up efforts to solidify their position in the 40-member Council ahead of polls.

On Thursday, both BPF and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) parties held mass campaigns at different places in Kokrajhar district before the announcement of election dates for the council.

The state election commission is likely to announce dates for the council elections within November 15.

The UPPL party is contesting in 40 seats, BPF in 37, GSP in 35, BJP in 26, and AIUDF in 7.
