The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against five suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadres in Assam’s Barpeta district.
Earlier, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the five accused cadres after Barpeta Police recovered one country made revolver, four rounds of live ammunitions and Jehadi literature. The police had conducted the search operation at the residence of one Hafizur Rahman after receiving information about the presence of one trained JMB suspect.

On the disclosure of Hafizur Rahman, the other trained cadres of JMB, namely, Yakub Ali, Sariful Hussain, Mustafizur Rahman and Md. Hafiz Safikul Islam were arrested by Barpeta Police and later handed over to the NIA.
A statement released on Friday stated that the accused cadres were trained members of JMB, which is a proscribed terrorist organization in India and Bangladesh. “Accused persons were recruited by one Sahanur Alom @ Sahanur Alam @ Doctor of Barpeta district. Sahanur Alom was earlier arrested by NIA in RC-03/2014/NIA-DLI (Burdwan Blast Case) on 10.10.2014,” it stated.

It is to be noted that Alom had already been convicted and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting and training as JMB cadres in Barpeta.
