Guwahati, October 11, 2018:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist case in Assam and have also registered a case on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that earlier, the case was being handled by the Uttar Police Police and as many as eight suspected operatives were arrested by the Assam Police from various locations in Assam.

It may be mentioned that few days ago a suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, Qamar Uz Zaman was arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on September 13 from Kanpur.

According to the police, Zaman, who hails from Jamunamukh,

was allegedly recruited in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. He had gone to Kashmir a few years ago to do some business but went missing in 2017. In 2018, a photo of him holding an AK-47 rifle had gone viral on the social media.

The police said Zaman was trying to spread the tentacles of the terrorist outfit to Assam and identified Hojai district to radicalize Muslim youth.

Special Director General (Special branch) of Assam Police, Pallab Bhattacharya said that Qamar uz was brought to Assam from UP police on a transit remand and was produced before a local court.

The NIA was already probing with the Assam and UP police for the past few weeks. As per some reports, the Assam Police found that the terror outfit was searching for new recruits from Assam and Qamar uz was given that reasonability.

There are also reports that the operatives of the outfit were also trying to purchase weapons from Dimapur.
