JORHAT: The Assam Police have arrested as many as six persons in connection with the Jorhat ferry accident which killed two injuring many on September 8.
One person named Bikramjit Barua is still missing and remained untraced.
The arrested people have been identified as-- Dhanbar Das, Jogen Dutta, Babul Neog, RijuKumar Das, Jayanta Dutta, and Binod Baruah.
The horrific accident took place around 4 pm on September 8 at Nimatighat, Jorhat district of Assam when two ferries with at least 150 passengers on board from opposite directions collided in the Brahmaputra River.
Following an order of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jorhat police have also registered a criminal case against them.
Ankur Jain, Superintendent of Jorhat Police, confirmed the development and said they have arrested six people involved in the movement of the unfortunate ferry disaster on charges of death due to negligence.
According to sources, all of them were taken to the Jorhat Medical College for medical check-ups and are now under Jorhat Police custody.

Further investigation on the matter is underway.
Earlier in the government data, it was revealed that there were only 90 passengers on board during the mishap.
But a report released on September 11 evening has shown that the number of passengers increased to 92. Likewise, the total number of or traced alive passengers number increased to 89 as well.
The death toll stands at two after one Indreswar Bora’s body was found at Biswanath Ghat yesterday by the forest department officials.
The body was identified with the help of documents recovered from the victim’s possession.
Parimita Das (30) is one of the dead victims.
