Guwahati, March 25, 2019:

Putting bed to the rumors of there being a “secret understanding” between the AIUDF and the Congress party, the AIUDF General Secretary, Aminul Islam, while addressing the press on Monday, confirmed that there is no such alliance between the two parties.

Before every single election in Assam, rumor and allegations start circulating in Assam putting the AIUDF and the Congress party in the same boat and this year has been no different. BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav made the same allegation on Sunday while addressing the media in Guwahati, claiming that there is an “unholy nexus” between the two parties.

But those reports have been dismissed by the AIUDF’s General Secretary himself. “We are part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for the last 10 years. The Congress has started its poll campaign in Barpeta. It’s time for them to decide whether they will fight against BJP or AIUDF”, he said.

The AIUDF General Secretary further confirmed that the lock-and-key party will contest only three seats in the ensuing elections – Dhubri (Badruddin Ajmal), Barpeta (Hafiz Rafiqul Islam) and Karimganj (Radheshyam Biswas).
