No sufficient quarantine centres in Kokrajhar to combat COVID-19: MP Biswajit Daimary

At a time when Assam has witnessed a massive spike in the COVID-19 cases, Rajya Sabha MP and Bodoland Peoples’ Front leader Biswajit Daimary alleged scarcity of quarantine centres in Kokrajhar district.

Expressing his concern over the arrival of a huge number of stranded people in the district, the BPF leader said, “There is scarcity of quarantine centres in the district.” The district has 19 quarantine centres as of now.

Meanwhile, Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State (Independent) Health and Family welfare, who visited the SAI quarantine centre in the district, has urged all sections of citizens to maintain strict social distancing to combat the Coronavirus outbreak in the state. Over 2300 peoples are taking shelter across 19 centres in the district, Hazrika informed.

The state has registered 96 positive coronavirus cases with the new case where a 9-year-old boy from Jorhat district has been tested positive for the lethal virus.

On May 16 night, four positive cases – two from Guwahati one each from upper Assam’s Sivasagar district and Sonitpur district – and were reported. Sivasagar registered its first COVID-19 case with a young boy tested positive for the lethal virus while the Guwahati registered 33 total cases so far.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed the people of the state not to step out of their homes unless it is very important and to maintain social distancing.

The nationwide tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases crossed 90,000 on Sunday with more people testing positive for the deadly virus infection in India, even as indications emerged about greater relaxations in the fourth phase of the lockdown beginning Monday to contain economic costs of the coronavirus pandemic.
