Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over NRC proceedings while addressing the media at the state executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Majuli.
Sarma said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2018 should not be an issue rather the people should worry about the illegal foreigners who have been incorporated in the complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He said, “The question is not about my satisfaction or dissatisfaction, it is the NRC that the people should be concerned about. They should concentrate on how the illegal foreigners can be removed from the final draft NRC in Dhubri, Cachar, Hilakandi and boarder areas. As per the reports submitted only 6 to 7 per cent names have been excluded in those areas. In contrary 14 per cent people have been excluded in Kamrup Metro itself. So the question has arisen in the Assam Accord.”
“The Supreme Court has given out many statements saying that there has indefinite increase in the population in the border areas, however from the border areas no names have been deducted in NRC. All are talking about the Citizenship Bill, but no one is concerned about all these factors. The appeasement has moved into our blood and in the next census we will speak Assamese, so we should legalise everything,” he added
