Notorious criminal 'Pocha' shot by Assam police during escape attempt

DHUBRI: Murder accused and alleged drug kingpin Ramesh Basfore alias Pocha, who sensationally escaped from the front of Jorhat Sadar Police Station last December after murdering a local business man, was arrested from a hotel at Dhubri on Thursday and shot Friday morning.

Police said that the alleged criminal was openly fired on by Jorhat police on Friday morning during an attempt to flee.

A Jorhat police team in collaboration with Dhubri police on Thursday night arrested Ramesh Basfore alias Pocha hailing Jorhat while he was hiding in a hotel at Dhubri.

It was informed that the Jorhat police had been searching for anti-social elements like Pocha for a long time. Jorhat police on Thursday arrested Pocha in collaboration with Dhubri police and took him to Jorhat on the basis of a tip off.

It may be mentioned that the accused Pocha had been hiding in the hotel in Dhubri since December 23.
