Now, Assam's economically backward students likely to receive free smartphones

Guwahati: With the advent of the COVID-19 virus, online education has become a must for all students. Keeping this in mind, Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged the Education department of the state to provide smartphones to the economically backward students of the state.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the Education Department of Assam to provide the students of economically weaker sections with smartphones to help them attend online classes.

This was discussed during the meeting held on 27th October regarding the opening of schools on 2nd November after around 8 months of lockdown.
The CM has also asked the department to look after the distribution of iron, folic acid tablets along with yoga classes to boost the immunity of students.
He has also advised to immediately shift the COVID care centres that were being set up at the schools and to link each school with a health centre to keep a regular check on the health of students.

Although the promise of free smartphones has been made, it is to be seen how the Government reach the remoter regions. How the Government takes the facility of smartphones to the remoter regions will be incredibly interesting to note.
