NRC affected pace of Assam’s development: Shiladitya

Guwahati (Assam), September 2, 2018:

The Centre had made financial allocations for the updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. However, BJP’s Hojai MLA, Shiladitya Dev, has claimed that the huge expenses affected the pace of development in the state.

He claimed that NRC had been counter-productive as many illegal Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants became Indians by virtue of the inclusion of their names in NRC. He alleged that many individuals managed to get their names included by shelling out money.

“The ten per cent re-verification work should be carried out on those whose names were not included in NRC and not those who made it to the list. Many people were arbitrarily left out of the draft despite they possessed relevant documents. An impartial monitoring committee should be constituted to look into this. The names of many illegal Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants were included in NRC in Dhubri, Barpeta, Cachar, Karimganj and Goalpara,” the MLA claimed.
