NRC Co-ordinator Hajela Behaving Like 'Super Chief Minister': MLA Shiladitya Dev

Guwahati, August 26, 2019:

Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, who has been outspoken in his distrust of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), to be published on August 31, has repeatedly chided the Prateek Hajela-fronted project as a 'one man show'.

Taking to Inside Northeast four days ahead of its release, the MLA said that he has been voicing his concerns for three years. "I have been trying to explain how corrupt practices are being used for this updating process, I have mentioned how illegal immigrants are being used for this work", he said.

Saying that he does not have "trust" and "faith" Hojai MLA again slammed the NRC co-ordinator Shiladitya Dev and alleged that the NRC is a 'one man show' and Hajela is, in fact, behaving like a "super Chief Minister."

He also alleged that there is no "proper monitoring", and lamented that lakhs and lakhs of Bangladeshi Muslims who came after 1971 have been included in the draft, whereas Hindu Bengalis who came to India before 1971 were excluded because they did not have

"Even martyrs' families are facing the NRC hearings", he said, adding that there NRC has been a failure in securing a future for the people of Assam.

"There are a lot of anomalies going on, therefore the (BJP) party has to voice its concerns", added Shiladitya.
