Over a Lakh Bodos Welcome PM Modi to 'Victory Rally' in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, February 7, 2020:

Jangkhritai Pwthar, the Kokrajhar venue selected to host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's massive rally after the Accord which he has termed as "historic", has been thronged by at least a lakh Bodos, who have gathered here to celebrate "victory".

Over a lakh Bodos from all corners of the State, carrying colourful aronais have welcomed the CM with pomp and show, with colourful displays being brought out by a celebrating Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Notably, the Kokrajhar town was decked with 70,000 earthen lamps on Thursday to welcome the Prime Minister and a bike rally organized by the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) took to Kokrajhar streets as a festive atmosphere pervaded.

On the day of the "victory rally", the Prime Minister was welcomed with song, dance, and revelry by the masses still in the throes of celebrations after the signing of the Accord, that is seen as an attempt by the Centre to quell the decades-long.

On January 27, a tripartite pact was signed between the Central and State Governments and the Bodo stakeholders, including all four factions of the Nationalist Democratic Front of Bodoland.

After the signing of the Accord, 1,615 cadres of the deposited 178 weapons including AK series rifle, M-16 rifle, 4803 rounds live ammunition, 14 grenades, one 2 inch mortar during an arms laying down ceremony held in Guwahati on January 30.
