RANGIA: Communal tensions came to the fore once again in Assam's Rangia after a Pakistani flag was discovered in the Gurkuchi region in the early hours of the morning today.
The discovery of the flag -- hoisted on a pole beside the main road -- led to a hue-a-cry in the Kamrup town. Later, agitated locals tore the flag down and fed it to the flames while chanting 'Bharat Maata Ki Jai" (victory to mother India).
Investigations are currently underway to find out who planted the flag in Rangia amid the ongoing election atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Rangia locals have claimed that some nefarious elements are perpetrating these acts in order to create communal divisions and to mislead the electorate ahead of the polls.
"We are yet to find the reason behind the unfurling of the flag; the district administration should ensure that there is no communal disharmony in the society amid such a sensitive period," said a local.

Another local hinted that the BJP-led allies have undertaken these tactics in order to create polarization in society.
"Even as the Mahajot candidate's victory is all but certain and the people are turning up to vote in great numbers, some miscreants have hatched a conspiracy to try and turn the tide against him. In the recent past, we saw a picture of Badruddin Ajmal. And today, we saw a flag of Pakistan that was unfurled in Gurkusi. Everybody knows who are the people behind this conspiracy," he told us.
Rangia seat is part of the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, which falls in the Lower Assam region of Assam.
