Panchayat Election Counting Begins in Assam

Guwahati, December 12, 2018:

The counting forthe first phase of Assam Panchayat election has begun for on Wednesday. The counting began at 8 am in the morning.

The counting is underway in all the

districts of Assam. According to latest available trends, the Bhartiya Janata

Party (BJP) and Congress are engaged in a neck-to-neck contest.

There are 2,200 Gaon panchayats in Assam. A total of 1,56,41,456 votersexercised their franchise out of which 81,23,835 are male and 75,17,621 arefemale voters. A total of 23,505 polling stations were set up. It is the BJP’s first litmus test in Assamafter their election win in and it remains to be seen how much of an impact therift between the AGP and BJP will have on the fortunes of the Congress.
