Guwahati, April 23, 2019:

The high voltage Phase-III Lok Sabha polls have begun across the state of Assam and Tripura.

The voting has begun from 7 am in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Dhubri, Karimganj, Barpeta, and Gauhati. Tripura East will also undergo polls today with 10 candidates battling it out.

The fate of 54 candidates in Assam will be decided today by the mass electors. The voters have started moving to their respective polling stations and many can be seen standing in a queue.

As many as 38,308 polling personnel have been allocated to the 9577 booths in the state. Among these, 436 are micro observers, 5 General Observers, 4 Expenditure Observers, 3 Police Observers.

As many as 9,577 EVM and VVPAT sets have been allocated for the Phase-III polls. In Guwahati HPC, two balloting units have been used as the number of candidates is 17 which has exceeded the limit of 16 in one unit.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter early in the morning to appeal to citizens to cast their valuable votes.
