Two pistols, besides 766 live cartridges and four air guns, were seized by the police from a house in South Sarania locality of Guwahati on Sunday.
According to reports, the seizure was made when a team of the police had raided the house of one Nirod Deka. He had availed of a loan of Rs.42 lakh from the Oriental Bank of Commerce in the city in 2016 but defaulted. Bank officials, accompanied by the police, conducted a raid at the house in search of him.
Not much was known about Deka. It was also not known as to why he had stockpiled the weapons.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Pradip Saloi said Deka had licenses against the two pistols.
“We are investigating as to why and how he stockpiled so many cartridges,” Saloi said.
The police have sealed the house.
