Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Assam’s Moran town on Saturday in order to woo the voters of the state and garner support for BJP’s candidate from Jorhat, Topon Kumar Gogoi.
Modi accused the Congress party of being corrupt. “Congress is increasingly becoming worried. They ran a Government which turned the nation into a poor country. Now people want a strong Government, not a corrupt Government”, he alleged.
Modi also attempted to win over the tea tribes, a key voting bloc, during his speech and accused the Congress of neglecting them. “Congress does not even want to look at the tea tribes and thus, they have been suffering for generations. The plight of tea tribes can only be understood by a humble tea seller like me”, he said.
Modi also claimed that the NDA Government is trying to work for the well-being of the Assamese people. “We are trying our best to enact the Assam Accord which Congress kept hanging. Also, we are thinking gravely about giving ST status to the six agitating communities of Assam”, he said.
