PM Modi dials Assam CM to enquire state's flood situation; assures support from Centre

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took a stock of the flood situation in parts of Assam calling State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Praying for the safety and well-being of the living in the affected areas PM Modi has also assured all possible assistance to mitigate the flood situation in the state.

Thanking PM Modi for offering help to the state CM Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, "We are grateful to you for your continued concern, and assurance of help Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji. Your words mean a lot to us."

Floods have affected at least 950 villages in 21 districts in Assam, according to the Flood Reporting and Information Management System (FRIMS) released on August 30 by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

A total of  3,63,135 people have been affected.

 

 

The report also suggests, 44 relief centres, including 16 relief camps and 28 relief distribution centres have been established in the state to assist flood victims.

At least 1,619 people have taken refuge in these relief camps.
