New Delhi, February 3, 2020:

Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi, in a recent speech in the Parliament, has lamented the "lack of seriousness and overall absence of Cabinet Members in the Parliament discussions on the Motion of Thanks by the President. The young Congress leader also pointed out that citizens are out on the streets "defending the values of the Constitution". The young Assam MP, slamming the Union Budget 2020, said that the Prime Minister hobnobbing with industrialists will not solve the problems of the common man or woman.

Taking a swipe at the ruling party, Gogoi condemned the ruling dispensation. "Today is the first time we have witnessed a ruling party telling its party workers that the true enemies of India are Indians themselves- the women, the students, the farmers, the teachers. However, I am proud of these citizens who are reading the Constitution and talking about the values of the Constitution..."

Accusing the police of curbing protests through undemocratic means, Gogoi said, "... there are people shooting at protesters right in front of the Delhi Police. Even behind this  shooting, there are Ministers who are provoking these people."

"In maintaining this communal agenda, there are several problems of roadways, poverty, unemployment, caste-based injustice that are being glanced over by the Government. In India, the true problems today are poverty inequality, and unemployment", Gogoi said, accusing the Government of fomenting communalism while ignoring the core issues that will either make or break the nation.

"The key to the growth of our nation is through the growth of our rural India and our farmers. Our Prime Ministers collaborating with top industrialists is not the solution to India’s economic problem", Gogoi argued, adding that the citizens of India will not be deterred by the Government’s "empty threats".
