Guwahati: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, home to Assam's second-largest population of one-horned rhinos, will be reopened for the public on November 10. This has been confirmed by Ranger Mukul Tamuli.
Pobitora, spread across 38,85 square kilometres on the Southern bank of the Brahmaputra adjacent to Guwahati, was closed down amid the monsoons that left scores of people dead.
According to reports, the anti-CAA agitation has badly affected the business of Pobitora and only about Rs. 30 lakh was collected last year in the months of January and February. The collections of the world heritage site Kaziranga have also been impacted by the anti-CAA agitation that swept Assam late last year and in the early part of 2020.

In a significant development, authorities have once again opened the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve for visitors. The reopening of the 'mini-Kaziranga', home to a large number of tigers, is expected to give a major boost to tourism prospects in Assam in the post-COVID world. Persons above 65, children below 10, and pregnant women will not be allowed in view of the ongoing pandemic situation.
Assam Forest and Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Friday visited the park and along with declaring its reopening, also inaugurated the newly developed tourist facilitation center within the park premises.
Sukladaidya shared pictures from today's grand ceremony along with the caption, "Visited Orang National Park & Tiger Reserve today to kick-start it’s opening for tourists from today. Also inaugurated the newly developed tourist facilitation center which will act as a good addition to the overall facilities within the park provided by the authority."
