Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary on Thursday expressed his concern over Schedule Tribe status to be given to the six indigenous communities of Assam.

Addressing a gathering at an Intellectual meet organized by the Kokrajhar District Committee, Bodo Peoples’ Front, Daimary said, “The major issue of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area is the allotment of Schedule Tribe status to the six indigenous communities of Assam that will hamper the two communities belonging to the BTC area. Different tribal organizations including All Assam Bodo Students’ Union has been also expressed their dissatisfaction over government’s move to provide ST status to the six communities.”

He added, “The already existing ST tribal communities like the Bodo, Rabha, Mishing, etc. are in a threat that their rights will be moved to the six communities if they are provided with ST status by the government.”
